Love Community Garden has been donated a Craftsman riding lawn mower. One of our gardeners is going to tune it up and get it in tip top shape for our season of growing food to feed the mind and soul. A big thanks and shout out to "Chicago Sally" who thought of us and made sure we could mow the easy way this year. We would also like to thank our loyal volunteer Jody for spending a day of her vacation going to pick it up and bringing it to us. Planting season is just around the corner, let the fun begin!!!

Compost For Love Community Garden

What works for some might not work for others. Love Community Garden is staying independent and not excepting grant money to meet our goals. So what does that mean? It means we will still have our raised beds and it looks like all we discussed will come to pass. A few glitches have occurred but nothing we can't overcome.

Compost happens with a little support in finding donors to buy Love Community Garden bags of Manure Compost. We know times are tough but if we can find 24 people, each donor buying us one bag, we will have enough to get through the season. They sell the best at Agard's plus we try to buy local. The cost is around $2.50. If you are interested in buying a bag and need to know where to drop it off, contact me at nelsonneighborhood@yahoo.com

We need to have our Manure Compost bags by April 30, 2009.

Muskegon Flea Market Opening May 6, 2009

I know that May 6 is over a month away but now is the time to start cleaning out the attic, basement and garage to get ready for Muskegon Flea Market opening day. You will be amazed at the stuff you have tucked around that you really do not use. Turn that stuff into cash. Muskegon Farmers Market offers up one one of the best priced flea markets in the area. There are always lots of customers ready to buy.

Last season we set up twice and made money for a local charity. So if you need the cash for yourself or set up to sell for charity, either way you get to clean out your house.

Stall prices:

* covered regular - $7.00
* asphalt lot - $6.00
* grass lot - $5.00

Ahhhhh warm air and sunshine

I brought up the Love Community Garden before but noticed some people milling around on Sunday. No camera with me so I looked to see what I had from last year. This picture will not do the rebuild justice but humble beginnings create roads to build on. I stopped and asked what will we have this year. I was told to expect sixteen 4x8 raised beds and three 8x8. It was explained that some will be shared crops while other are individual plots. This is an exciting time for gardens and a map to a future greener Muskegon.

Time To Think Of Community Garening

I know with the high of 40 degrees it seems like spring will never come. Good news is, it always does. Love Community Garden is changing this year with raised beds and fresh screened composted topsoil. That being possible by a Healthy Neighborhood Grant via the Muskegon County Health Department. What a GREAT addition for us.

We also have a few new gardeners and will have 50% more space. Sadly we have no openings for 2009 but do have a sign up waiting list for next year. There is another community garden going in on Muskegon Ave, by the Shell gas station so if you want to email me I will forward your name on to the other garden's leaders.

Farmers Market and Flea Market

The Farmers Market opens early Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings to 1 pm, May through December. Offers West Michigan's best fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants. The Flea Market is open 5 am to 3 pm on Wednesday, May through October, which includes antiques, collectibles and garage sale finds. Located just off Seaway Dr at the East end of downtown Muskegon on Yuba. Hours of operation are 6am to 2pm.

We are experiencing some very out of control teens in this area. If you are having problems there too, please call the police. We have got to take care of our streets and the only way is for all of us to work together on this. They don't belong hanging out in the streets and you need to make sure they understand this by using our police department to deal with it.

Beware, this kids have some really bad attitudes so best to use the authorities.

New Community Garden at 8th and Mason

Nelson Neighborhood will have a new community garden this year. Love Fellowship Baptist Chruch members along with residents have tilled the land and will be working the soil to ready for planting. The next work party is Saturday April 26, 2008 at noon.

Bring your rake and a pair of work gloves and help make our community a place of pride and good yummy's growing too.

The garden sits at the corner of 8th and Mason on the side lot of Love Fellowship Baptist Church. We owe a big thaks to Pastor Phillips for allowing the community to use the church land for this excellent venture and also a big shout out to the Love Fellowship members.

Tuesday April 29, 2008 Mother Earth Water Walk

On April 29, 2008, Love Fellowship Baptist Church along with the "Native People" of Muskegon, are hosting the participants of "Mother Earth Water Walk". The group will be walking all around Lake Michigan carrying a bucket of water in hopes of bringing awareness to the importance of clean drinking water.

All times are estimated due to a goal of the groups 40 mile a day walks. Greet and Meet at Love Fellowship Baptist Church, 1404 8th Street, Muskegon Michigan. Light dinner will be served provided by many volunteers.
